About the Event
Kinga Bledsoe Workshop | Saturday, October 3rd
Seven
Seven is a day-long class that got its name from the seven hares it consists of. In its center, there is a threehares motif, prevalent in ancient cultures all around the world, probably originating in Mesopotamia. From there, it made its way to China, and from China, along the Silk Road, the bunnies traveled to Europe. From medieval Jewish cemeteries to English churches, the bunnies made Europe their home too. That is one theory, the other is convergent evolution of the image. Because the world needed more infinite bunny circles to symbolize its deepest feelings, explain its secrets and tell its story. I will leave it to you to decide which explanation suits you best for explaining three hares running in a circle, their ears shared to create an optical illusion. Each bunny gets outlined with metallic seed beads and gets filled up with such beautiful things as lapis lazuli, malachite, pyrite, garnet. To keep the project from becoming price prohibitive, if you take this class, you can also use crystals instead of gems. Kits: The base price of $125 includes permanent finish patina silver seed beads with Chinese crystals. If you would like to use the rich, saturated Venetian gold seed beads and gems, the price will vary and top out at $185.
Classes will meet at Finnish Cultural Center at 35200 W 8 Mile Road, Farmington Hills, 48335. Classes meet from 9 am to 4 pm with a 1-hour lunch break.
